About

In Search of Place

On heritage and belonging

I’m Greek and South Korean – words can neatly divide me into two. Two distinct cultures, each with its own histories, traditions and ways of being. Yet, to me, they have always felt like one. Something I cannot neatly separate, no clear line between the two.

Perhaps that is why I’ve always been drawn to questions of place, identity and belonging. What does it mean to belong to a place? To be from one place while living in another – to become uprooted, re-rooted, or remain rootless?

Photographed over two days in Athens, members of the Korean community wear traditional Hanbok, staging encounters between cultures.
